Busted!

There’s a moment when you realize you’ve just been busted.

For years I have been happily sharing stories about my family, farming, and faith while proudly offering folks wholesome, tasty beef.

My “busted” moment came when I looked around and realized how many of the companies I appreciated and respected were embracing this new woke agenda… and I was not.

I’m not sure if it’s confidence or just being stubborn but as for me and my house, we will not be going woke!

Conversely, I will sleep like a baby and trust that God will provide for us more customers than a liberal agenda.

Thank you kindly,

A little DIY ingenuity!

Mama picked up some landscaping fabric for our garden this year, which is a totally new venture for us but I sure like the concept of less weeding! However when she saw the price of the “specialty landscaping staples” she promptly passed. Which is precisely what any practically perfect farm wife would do!

The Chicken “Pasty Butt” Dilemma

Ahhh Spring... the time of year when the weather warms, landscape greens, and many babies are born!

Mama has really been developing a growing love for her chickens and this year we have both chicks we hatched and store bought babies in by our washing machine.

Which is naturally why my utility room smells a bit like a barn right now!

Here’s a little story about a boy and his pliers...

Of course there will always be a debate over quality vs price and the expression “you get what you pay for” is known to all. Naturally this ideology applies to hand tools as well.

This last weekend all the girls in the family went to see some friends leaving the boy and I to do a few chores and have enough time to go to town and visit our new local hardware store.

Here's to pondering the character of folks, "back then"...

I like to describe our family life on our little farm as “simple but good”.  We don’t go many places or do many things.  We have a television set that is reserved for a “Friday night show” and the kids take turns picking something to watch. Mary Poppins, Swiss Family Robinson and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are among the favorites... oh, as well as Greatest Showman! So we are at least marginally up with the times!

The Farmwife vs. The Utility Room

The utility room. Farmwives everywhere know what I’m talking about. It’s a phenomena that transcends location and is universal to farm utility rooms everywhere. I grew up 1000 miles away from Nebraska on a hog and grain farm and the situation was the same. Muddy, dirty floor regardless of how many times you swept it. Coat racks burgeoning with smelly coveralls and toboggans (or stocking hats as they call them here).

The good, the bad and the beef bones

Some from folks wanted them for their dogs others wanted them to make bone broth... which my wife can now make in her pioneer woman instapot in a short period of time... which I partly bring up just to celebrate the fact that I finally nailed a Christmas present for my wife!   Pause... I can’t not tell a Christmas story right now!

If you can't stand the heat... don't sleep in the oven

Someone asked me how our Christmas trip to see the family was. I replied... memorable.

I’m reminded of a phrase you might have heard. “That was providential!”

It means that God obviously had a hand in whatever had just occurred. However I’ve always heard it after a positive event never when something very unexpected and frustrating just happened!
